Kaitlyn Hough - Graphic Designer

I have had a large interest in art ever since I was able to pick up and hold a crayon. In elementary school, a friend and I used to collaborate in writing our own comic books. Any video game I played growing up was design-based, and I had any activity book and arts and crafts set you could think of.
The two subjects I thrived the most in in school was art and music. Unfortunately, in 7th grade, my school district had students decide between art and music classes. I was very advanced in the violin and guitar at my age and didn't want to lose access to my music lessons, so I had to give up one of my favorite things.
Fast forward to 9th grade, Long Island was hit hard by Hurricane Sandy. Without electricity for about 2 weeks, I had to find things to keep myself busy that didn't require a computer, tv or gaming console. I found an older pair of canvas shoes and a basket of acrylic paint and got to work. This was a turning point for me as I fell in love with drawing and painting all over again.
From that point forward my focus was on any form of art.
I had multiple solo showcases within my high school, was able to participate in the advanced art courses without having to take the intro courses, and opened up an Etsy shop painting custom backpacks, canvases and canvas shoes.
After high school, I had begun my college career at LIU Post campus as an Art Education major. As much as I loved art in school, I quickly realized that teaching it was not for me. I had switched my major to fine art and focused solely on drawing and painting, but also quickly realized there wouldn't be much opportunity for me within that field.
After a semester off and being accepted into Farmingdale State College, I decided to go into the graphic design field, and that was without a doubt the best decision I made.
I believe my graphic design direction differentiates me from other designers as I am very fine arts influenced and illustration heavy. I try to incorporate my hand drawings into almost every aspect of my graphics.
I am hopeful that my unique approach to the graphic design world will offer me amazing opportunities to show my artistic visions to the world!
